Louis "Lou" Edmund Eberharter passed away on December 3, 2023, at the Bee Hive Nursing Home in Farmington, New Mexico. He was born on September 14, 1930 in Boulder, Colorado to the late Frank Eberharter and the late Isabelle Tavelli. 
He worked in the coal mines during his late teens and in 1947 he entered the Army and was proud to have served during the Korean War. After the Army he returned to his home in Boulder, Colorado, where he was united in marriage to Wilma Lark in 1953 and to this union was born three sons and two daughters. They divorced in 1966 at which time Lou was granted custody of his three sons. He raised his "boys" as a single parent until they all were of age to begin their own adult lives. He did a great job as father and mentor for his sons, as evident of their successful careers and being loving fathers. 
Lou worked for the Telephone Company as employee and contractor for over 45 years where he met his longtime companion Susan Girton and shared many years together. After his retirement he and Susan moved to Farmington, New Mexico in 2000. They spent their time traveling to many locations across the US and Canada together, enjoying their retirement. Lou also enjoyed watching professional football and was an avid reader of military novels, westerns and crime novels. 
He is survived by his three sons, Louis Scott Eberharter and daughter-in-law Kathryn, Martin Eberharter and daughter-in-law Erlene, Steve Eberharter and daughter-in-law Holly; two daughters Janice Constance, Donna Zirkle; longtime companion Susan Girton and her daughter Gwen O'Roark and husband Brook. Lou is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Eberharter and Isabelle Tavelli; his brothers Francis Forrest and Robert Eberharter; and his sisters Ruth Jensen and Patricia Eberharter.
Memorial services and inurnment will be at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic church in Boulder, Colorado in the Spring.
He will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.
