Marie Atencio

Marie "Nora" Leonare Gomez Atencio, 86, of Bloomfield, NM., passed away December 4, 2023. Our beloved Nora was born in Gobernador, New Mexico on July 27, 1937, to Jose Pablo and Matilda Gomez. She was raised on the Gomez ranch with her brothers and sisters. Her family moved to Blanco when she was young. Nora met the love of her life, Ray Atencio, and they were married on November 16, 1957. They were married for 53 years and were blessed with four beautiful daughters and many generations of grandchild. Her sense of humor brought joy and laughter to everyone around her. She loved to poke the bear, okayyyyy. Nora loved spending time with the people close to her, gardening, and playing cards with her family. She also shared many wise words of her Christian faith and was strong in her beliefs. Nora always gave good consejos.

Nora was preceded in death by her loving husband Ray Alex Atencio; her sons Paul and Anthony Atencio; her parents Jose Pablo and Matilda Gomez; her brother Padro Gomez; her sisters Genevieve Gomez Jacquez, Gertrude Lobato, Ascension Gomez, Lorraine Gomez, Mary Montano, Virginia Valdez, Polly Casaus, and Yolando Gomez.

She is survived by her daughters JoAnn Atencio, Belinda Gurule (William), Rayna Parra (Jaime), and Raynor Tafoya; her god daughter Cynthia Martinez; brothers Jose Ponciano Gomez and Demesio Gomez (Marilee); sister Ruth Romero (Phil); her grandchildren Alicia Gurule, Susan Gurule, Chris Archuleta, Olivia Archuleta, Alex Atencio Parra, Kristina Alvarado (Adolfo), Arriana Tafoya, and Mariano Tafoya; great-Grandchildren Se-Lena Gonzales (Josh), Isaiah Archuleta, Andrew Chavez, Andres Archuleta, Nevaeh Archuleta, Aaliyah Archuleta, Delano Archuleta, Abigail Candelaria, Abel Archuleta, Lola Anaya, Daniel Atencio Parra, Cruz Archuleta, Hector Atencio Parra; and her Great-Great Grandchild Marcelino Archuleta. She is also survived by her many beloved friends.

There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am on December 9, 2023, at the Bloomfield Baptist Church.
