Mary "Betty" Lopez

Mary “Betty” Lopez, 78, of La Plata, New Mexico, passed away on October 24, 2023, in La Plata, New Mexico. Mary was born on January 14, 1945, in Dolores, Colorado, to parents Virginia Valdez & Joseph Marnell.

 Mary “Betty” passed away peacefully on October 24, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with Parkinsons. She married Eugene Lopez on October 24, 1959. They had 3 daughters and 2 sons. She loved being around people, she enjoyed working in retail and also waiting tables. She enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and shopping. She loved to have family gatherings. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting on tea towels and giving them as gifts to anybody who wanted some. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.

Mary is preceded in death by her daughter Cindy Beyette, mother Virginia Valdez, brother Abe Valdez, grandson Jeff Phillips, and great granddaughter Lilianah Baird.

Mary is survived by her husband Eugene Lopez, sons Geno (Bernadette) Lopez, and Duane Lopez, daughters Donna (Telesforo) Varela, and Becky (Furst) Phillips, sister Kathy Masucbol, including 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, Rosary at 9:30am, Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Dolores, CO. Followed by burial at Summit Ridge Cemetery. The Family will host a Reception at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church Hall following burial services.
