N. Danny Sherwood

Norman Danny Sherwood was born in Winslow, Arizona in 1944 and passed away on May 27, 2025, in Farmington, New Mexico.

A nearly life-long resident of Kirtland, New Mexico, Dan moved to Kirtland at two years old when his family relocated from Arizona. His childhood years were split between his family home in Kirtland and spending time with his grandparents and cousins in St. Johns, Arizona. He graduated from Kirtland Central High School in 1962 where he excelled in many sports, including basketball. He left for college, graduating from UNM, then returned to Kirtland and married Doris Pope in 1968. They first lived in Shiprock, while he taught and coached cross country and basketball at Shiprock Junior High and High Schools from 1968 to 1975. They moved to Kirtland shortly after their first child, Danny Solomon was born. Dan raised his family in Kirtland, working in Farmington until retirement, for more than 50 years.

Dan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served as a leader for much of his life. He is survived by his wife Doris and their three children, Dan (Misty), Christian (Andy), Hilary (Jacob), 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, June 3, from 6 – 7 pm at Farmington Funeral Home (2111 W. Apache in Farmington). An additional viewing will be held Wednesday, June 4, at 9 am at the Kirtland Stake Center, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (10 Road 6523 in Kirtland). The funeral service will immediately follow, beginning at 10 am. Interment is at the Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery, following the funeral service.
