Patsy Anne Hill

July 17, 1933 — April 6, 2023

Patsy Anne Hill (formerly Jonas) left us to join the Lord on April 6, 2023. She was born to Elvin and Dorothy Jonas on July 17, 1933 in Deming, NM. She grew up in Klagetoh, AZ and Shiprock, NM with her siblings Gordon and Bette. She graduated high school in 1950 from Central Consolidated High School where she was a cheerleader. She then attended college at New Mexico A&M (currently NMSU) in Las Cruces where she received her Secretarial Certificate in June of 1954, although she wrote to her fiancé, Clint, that she was a horrible typist and was sure she would soon be fired. Clint and Patsy met at college and he was truly the love of her life. While they were apart just after getting engaged, they wrote daily letters to each other and met halfway in Albuquerque to spend the weekend together whenever possible. They were married on November 24, 1954 in Shiprock, NM. They soon moved to Bayard, NM where they had their two daughters, Deborah Anne and Sondra Rae. They then moved to Aztec, NM in 1963 where they raised their family and built a beautiful life together.

Patsy dedicated most of her career to Aztec School District, along with Clint, and was awarded a Life Time Pass from Aztec Municipal Schools for her outstanding contributions and support of AHS Activities. They helped to start BAB Credit Union (currently High Desert Credit Union) and ran it out of their home before it had an official office space. She served on the Board of Trustees at the credit union for over 30 years. Anyone who met Patsy would agree she had an immensely giving spirit. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Aztec for over 50 years. She loved to volunteer her time at the church and served in many different roles including playing the piano, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, counting donation money, helping to run VBS, cooking for gatherings and potlucks, and serving on several ministry teams. She loved cooking and long walks in the neighborhood. She also loved spending time in her backyard and garden, the location of many family gatherings, slip-n-slide sessions, gardening lessons, strawberry picking, chasing butterflies, and many other precious memories. Generations of kids, grandkids, great grandkids, friends, and neighbors created lasting memories in her house on Iris Drive. Her grandchildren will say that Grandma Pat was an angel on earth with no flaws and a pure heart.

Preceded in death by her mother and father, Elvin and Dorothy Jonas; her brother Gordon Jonas; and her beloved husband, Clinton Hill to whom she was married for 30 years. After Clint passed she continued to love him in her heart until her last breath.

She is survived in death by her sister, Bette (Arliss) Foutz; her two daughters Sandi (Charlie) Spencer and Debbie (Donnie) Holmes; her grandchildren, Shane (Priscilla) Vigil, Alyssa (John) Kuhn, Alyse Spencer, and Kayle Spencer; and her great grandchildren, Dax Vigil, Isely Vigil, Cruz Vigil, Landon Mitchell, Kelton Mitchell, Ashlyn Mitchell, Averee Wegher, and Aspen Wegher. Patsy had numerous other family members that were always in her nightly prayers: Jacob and Alex Kuhn, Brennon Hurd, Kylie Mangan, Phillip Holmes, Kim and Sean Winsor, and Jodi Leonhardt.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Patsy’s name to FUMC of Aztec or to the Aztec Municipal School District Foundation where you can donate on their website under the “foundation” tab, or by mailing checks to AMSDF 1118 W.
