Obituary

Paul Matherly passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and deep love for his family. He was a beloved husband, dad, grandad, and great-grandad whose presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Paul was born on June 19, 1935, in Butler Tennessee to Edward H. Matherly and Georgia M. Matherly. Paul was a longtime resident of Clovis, New Mexico, where he built both his life and his reputation within the community before later moving to Arizona. A proud veteran, Paul honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying that same sense of duty and integrity into every chapter of his life.

He was a true "car guy" through and through, known for his passion for the automotive world. Over the years, he was involved with several dealerships in Clovis and was the proud owner of Holiday on Wheels. in his later years, Paul continued serving others as an insurance adjuster with Wardlaw Claims, where his honesty and care for people were evident in his work.

Faith was the foundation of Paul's life. As a devoted member of First Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico, he lived out his beliefs daily. His faith was not only something he spoke of-it was something he demonstrated through his actions, his kindness, and his unwavering love for others.

Paul was known by his family, friends, and community as a man with a servant's heart. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or simply be present for someone in need. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he took great pride and joy in each generation.

He was preceded in death by his beloved "sweetheart, Elfrieda, who passed on March 10, 2025. No doubt, their reunion is one of joy and peace.

Paul is also preceded in death by three brothers, six sisters, and one grandson.

He is survived by his son Mark Matherly (Gina), daughters Kim Hodge (Randy), Pam Boatman (Mark), and Jenny Soule (Joey), sister Sue Pierce, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

While our hearts grieve his loss, we find comfort in knowing he is now home, restored and whole, and reunited with the love of his life. Paul's legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the values he instilled, and the love he gave so freely.

Paul will be buried at the National Cemetery in Sante Fe, NM at a later date.

Memorials and donations may be made to American Red Cross or local charity supporting Veterans.
