With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Rachael Ann Ferson (Gomez), who peacefully entered eternal rest on July 7, 2026, at the age of 74.
Rachael was born on December 16, 1951, in Farmington, New Mexico. She was raised in a loving family as one of fifteen children by two devoted Catholic parents who instilled in her a deep and unwavering faith. A faithful Roman Catholic throughout her life, Rachael's relationship with God was the foundation of everything she did. She found strength, peace, and purpose through her faith and remained dedicated to her parish and church family every day of her life.
Known for her independent spirit, strong will, and unwavering determination, Rachael believed that hard work was one of life's greatest virtues. She spent more than twenty years working in banking before joining and inheriting" sons" at GCR Tire Company. Later, she found great joy serving her parish by working in the rectory, where she grew even closer to her church family and continued her lifelong commitment to serving others.
Rachael found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was an avid reader who could often be found with a good book in hand. She loved crocheting beautiful handmade gifts, canning, and making her famous "Tia Ray's Jellies," which she proudly sold at numerous local craft fairs. She especially enjoyed attending craft fairs, where she shared both her creations and her warm smile with everyone she met.
Above all else, Rachael's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She was the most loving and devoted mother three children could ever ask for. She worked tirelessly every day of her life to provide for them, support them, and encourage them through every adventure life brought their way. Her love was steadfast, unconditional, and unwavering.
She was affectionately known as Mom, Momma Grandma, and Granny by her family. At Sacred Heart School, she became known to many children as Grandma Rachael and Grandma Angel, lovingly embracing countless "inherited" grandchildren who adored her. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed, loved, and valued, touching countless lives throughout her church and community.
Rachael is survived by her loving children, Fabian Montoya (Sebrina), Michelle Newton (Orien), and Corinna Martinez (Aaron); her cherished grandchildren, Alex Newton, Justin Newton, Garrett Parker, Angelina Martinez, and Jasmine Martinez; her twelve beloved brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Jose Gilbert Gomez; her mother, Rebecca Gomez; her sister, Evelyn Gomez; and her brother, Randall Gomez.
Rachael will be remembered for her unwavering faith, quiet strength, generous heart, tireless work ethic, and the unconditional love she shared so freely. Her life was a beautiful example of compassion, service, and devotion to God and family. Although our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort knowing that our beautiful "Angel" will forever watch over us. Her legacy of faith, kindness, perseverance, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
A rosary will be held on Friday July 17th at 9:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday July 17th at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Rachael's life, to honor her memory, and to give thanks for the countless ways she touched the lives of others.
