Obituary

Rodney Dale Wimsatt, lovingly known as Sammy by his family, was born on July 16, 1956, in Durango, Colorado, to Bobby Eugene and Evelyn Maxine Wimsatt.

In his early years, Rodney spent some time in the Navy before beginning his career with El Paso in 1982, where he worked for nearly 33 years. After retiring, he embraced the simple joys he treasured most—golf, time with family and friends, and cheering on his beloved UNM Lobos.

Rodney passed away on July 18, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Maxine and Bobby Eugene Wimsatt. He is survived by his brother Ron (Jan), sister Gemma, daughter Delica (Chris), son Anthony (Alex), and granddaughter Ella Mae Evelyn, nieces Melissa, Jamie (Jacob), Gentry (Jared), and McKala (Eric), along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless friends he held close to his heart.

He was a simple man in the most meaningful way—content, loyal, and happiest when surrounded by those he loved. His legacy lives on in the memories shared, the laughter he sparked, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his life.

A celebration of Rodney’s life will be held at Farmington Funeral Home on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Those attending are welcome to wear UNM Lobos attire or red in his honor, and if you are comfortable, we will invite anyone who wants to share any fun or fond memories of Rod.
