Roger Shorter

January 2, 1961 — September 1, 2025

Roger Dale Shorter passed away at his home in Aztec, New Mexico, with his loving wife by his side. He was born on January 2, 1961, in Durango, Colorado, to Imogean (Jean) Armstrong Shorter and Kenneth R. (Red) Shorter. Roger was one of five children.

On January 27, 2001, he married the love of his life, Dora Shorter, in Aztec, NM. Roger grew up in the oil field and went on to own and operate his own belly truck for many years before later becoming a consultant in the oil and gas industry. His work allowed him to travel the world, working on drilling rigs. No matter how far he went, he never forgot to bring home gifts for his children from the countries he visited.

Roger could never sit still. He was always exploring new hobbies, including beekeeping, gardening, and freeze-drying food and candy. However, his favorite place in the world was always by the lake or river, fishing and surrounded by family. He made it a household rule that all his children learned to attach a hook and bait their own line.

Above all, Roger's greatest joy in life was his children and grandchildren. He was truly the greatest Papa-always ready to drop everything for his babies.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Red and Jean Shorter; his brother Billy; his sister Donna; his Uncle Harold Armstrong; aunts Chloe Gilbert, Dorothy Armstrong, Omega (Pug) Brosch, Zelma Blundell, Loretta Seybert, and Myrna Thompson; his niece Kimberly McCabe; his nephew Michael Mumm; and great-nephew Timothy McCabe.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dora Shorter; sons Michael Shorter, Kenneth Shorter, William Shorter, and Kennar Shorter; daughters Shannie Atkinson (wife Keesha Atkinson), Heather Mariaca (husband Enzo Mariaca), and Alyssa Woolman (husband Montana "Monty" Woolman); and his beloved grandchildren: Preston Madena Shorter, Julian Salgado, Malachi Dillow, Alonzo Alcon, Emily Lamb, Trinity Jaramillo, Lalo Jaramillo, Eli Jaramillo, Wesley Shorter, and Mila Shorter. Brother Rickie Shorter (wife Vickie Shorter), sisters Susie Mumm (husband Bob Mumm) and Kendra Skalenda (husband Kevin Skalenda).

Roger will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
