Sheila Boespflug, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, departed this life peacefully on October 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 6, 1942, in Farmington, New Mexico, Sheila's life was a testament to love, community, and resilience.
Sheila was the cherished daughter of Doyle Eugene Hill and Merdice "Mercedes" Matilda Reid. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Leonard Joseph Hill and Terry Gene Hill, her sister-in-law Lainna Hill, her devoted husband James "Jim" Boespflug, and her son James Kirk Boespflug.
Sheila's legacy lives on through her surviving family: her sister Michelle Hill-Jack and her husband Kent, her daughter Kelli Spring, and her son Kennith Boespflug and his wife Stormy. Her grandchildren—Scott Hill and wife Jenessa, Carrie Schoenberger and husband Sean, Jennilynn Hill, Alyssa Pruit, Hailey Howard, Cash Boespflug, Kyle Boespflug and wife Whitley, and Nathan Webster—along with her 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, carry forward her spirit and love.
In her early years, Sheila married Kennith Higginbothum and together they welcomed their children, Kelli and Kennith. She found love again with James "Jim" Boespflug, and they welcomed their son Kirk. Together, Sheila and Jim made significant contributions to their community, including helping to build the Las Vegas, New Mexico Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sheila was an active and devoted member of the church. She held numerous callings such as Choir Director, Young Women's Leader, Primary Leader, Relief Society President, and Sunday School Teacher.
Her professional life was marked by over five decades of dedicated service at KFC Shiprock, where she formed lasting friendships with the Navajo community. Sheila was a vibrant personality who loved cooking, sewing, and keeping her home welcoming for guests. Her adventurous spirit took her to her family's cabin in the La Plata Canyon, where she enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, and boating. An avid gardener, she took pride in her plants and rose beds.
Sheila's love for life and her community extended to her hobbies, including a fierce game of marbles and her passion for canning. She instilled the values of self-sufficiency in her children, teaching them the importance of food storage and self-reliance. Sheila's love of church music resonated throughout her life, and she sang with joy as long as her voice allowed.
A viewing will be held at Farmington Funeral Home 2111 W Apache St, Farmington, NM 87401, Friday October 16, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm.
