In Loving Memory of Sherry Kay Munkres
Sherry Kay Munkres, 76, of Aztec, New Mexico, passed away on October 24, 2026, in Aztec, New Mexico.
Sherry was born on January 17, 1950, in Iraan, Texas, to H.C. and Dorothy Burnam. She graduated from Iraan High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Texas Tech University. She spent several years teaching children across numerous grade levels. After moving to New Mexico, she owned and operated American Holiday Specialists, sharing her entrepreneurial spirit and love of the holidays with others.
Sherry was a proud member of the American Agriculture Movement and Tractor Cade. She had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed just about anything that involved the mountains, including four-wheeling, camping, and fishing. She also enjoyed collecting knickknacks, taking pictures, reading, and watching sports. Whether she was enjoying a quiet afternoon with a good book, spending time fishing, exploring the outdoors, or cheering on her favorite team, Sherry found happiness in the simple things that made life special.
Above all else, Sherry loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, loving aunt, and friend. Her family was at the center of her world, and she treasured the time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. She will be remembered for the love she gave, the memories she created, and the special place she held in the hearts of those who knew her.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband, Scott Munkres; her son, Bradley Munkres and wife Hannah; her daughters, Heather Olguin and husband Leo, and Karah McCoy and husband Anthony Ray; her brother, Randy Burnam and wife Cynthia; her sister, Karla Aldridge and husband Stephen; her grandchildren, Avah Olguin, Jacob Olguin, Ashleigh Baker, Sylas Slaugh, Cassius Slaugh, Tatum Munkres, and Carter Munkres; and her great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Baker and Emsley Baker. She also leaves behind extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Meek, and her parents, H.C. and Dorothy Burnam.
Though Sherry's passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express, the love she shared and the memories she leaves behind will live on through the generations of family she cherished so deeply. Her life was measured not only by the years she lived, but by the lives she touched, the adventures she enjoyed, and the family she loved so dearly.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
