Valentin Ruben Gomez, 79, of Bloomfield, NM, was welcomed into eternal life on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, in Farmington, NM. Valentin was born February 2, 1942, in Farmington, NM, to Medardo D. Gomez and Mary Salazar Gomez. Valentin (Val or Tiner) grew up in Bloomfield, NM, and graduated from BHS in 1960. He was a very talented musician, dancer, a jokester, made the most of everything he had, and never wanted to cause worry to his loved ones. He was proud of his ancestry and loved his family with a passion, especially his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Medardo and Mary Gomez; his most beloved wife, Agnes Gomez; their only son, Adolfo "Duffy" Gomez; his grandsons, Ruben Gomez and Brian Gomez; sisters, May Gomez, Celia Gomez, Cecilia Serna, Rebecca Gonzales; and brothers, Francisco Gomez, Medardo Gomez, Jr, and Jose Serna. He is survived by one brother, Joseph Gomez of Corona, CA; four sisters, Gloria (Lee) Fernandez of Bloomfield, NM, Alvina Aguirre of Aztec, NM, Darlene Cruz of Aztec, NM, and Dolores (Roger) Prado of Blanco, NM; three daughters, Nancy (Johnnie) Adair of Bloomfield, NM, Mary (George) Martinez of Aztec, NM, and Valorie Gomez of Aztec, NM; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Mary (Clayton) Ludwig of Bayfield, CO, Emily Anderson of Aztec, NM, Reina Lopez, of TX; and his longtime friend Alice Roybal and her son Terry of Bloomfield, NM.
All services for Valentin will take place on Saturday, November 20, 2021. A rosary will be recited, led by members of the Legion of Mary, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 2100 E. 20th St., Farmington, NM; a memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Father Frank Chacon officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 51 Road 4900, Bloomfield, NM, following Mass.
The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following interment at St. Mary's Parish Hall, 307 N. Church, Bloomfield, NM. All are asked to wear face masks and follow COVID-safe practices.
