Veneranda (BB) Ortega, 82, of Aztec, NM. passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, surrounded by her son, daughter-in-law, and sisters. She was born on November 28, 1944 in Grants, NM. to Martin Borthagaray Sr. and Navora Miller.
BB graduated in 1963 from Grants High School. She worked at Elkins Jewelry in 1975, then at Mt. Taylor 1977-1991 in San Mateo, NM. She later moved to Lovelock, NV. with her husband to work at Coeur Rochester Silver mine from 1992-2001. Where she was lead person on the blasting crew.
BB enjoyed life with her husband of 50 years, they often would go to casinos and bingo. BB dedicated her life to her husband and son.
BB was preceded in death by her husband Ernest (Arnie) Ortega; her parents Martin Borthagaray, Sr. and Navora Miller.
She is survived by her son John (Delilah) Ortega from Aztec, NM; brother Martin (Peggy) Borthagaray of Grants, NM; sisters Anna Ruth of Aztec, NM. and Elizabeth Salazar of Aztec, NM; her 3 grandchildren and many loving nephews and nieces.
There will be a Rosary at 10:00 am on Friday, February 20, 2026 at San Mateo Catholic Church in San Mateo, NM. The Mass will follow. Honorary Pallbearers are Martin Borthagaray, Sr., Marty Borthagaray, Gino Borthagaray, Martin Salazar, Paul Salazar, Arch Ruth, TJ Tucson, and Joaquin Tuscon.
BB Ortega will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
