William (Bill) Lynn Gilkey of Aztec, New Mexico died peacefully at home on September 8, 2025 at the age of 91. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Shirley M. Gilkey. Survivors include his son Paul Gilkey and wife Crystelle, daughter Karen Townsend and husband Steve, grandchildren Caitlin, Christopher and Kathleen, Bill is also survived by bonus grandchildren Mike and Anna Murphy and their children Garrett, Kyle, Ryan and Paige. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Gilkey and sister-in-law Phyllis Gilkey.
Bill Gilkey was born July 14, 1934 in Syracuse, NY to Clarence and Naomi Gilkey. In 1981 he moved his family to New Mexico to join his parents and the rest of his family. He soon found a job as a mechanic at the Public Service of New Mexico, working there until his retirement. Towards the end of his career he ran the PNM toolroom and was proud of his accomplishments there.
After retirement, Bill and Shirley became snowbirds, spending winters in Florida where they enjoyed time with lifelong friends. Bill was a family man filled with pride in his children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at The Bridge of Farmington who welcomed him and cared for him like family.
