William Darrell Hunt

William "Darrell" Hunt was born August 15, 1942, in McNary, Arizona to William James Hunt and Kathryn Penrod Hunt. Darrell passed away at home with family at his side on August 8, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife Laura "Kim" Hunt of nearly 66 years, a daughter Jonna Sharpe, a son, Greg Hunt, six sisters and his aunt, Leola Rezentes. Darrell had 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, all of which he was immensely fond of.

Darrell was preceded in death by two sons, Darrell "Chad" Hunt and Tim Hunt and one daughter Kathy Hunt, two brothers and two sisters.

Darrell served as Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ranger which was the largest aircraft carrier in the fleet at that time with 5,000 service personnel. His primary duty was in munitions.

Darrell overcame many of life's challenge? which included surviving a horrific vehicle accident that caused the loss of a leg and more than 43 surgeries over the course of 43 years. He was told by surgeons he would never walk again, but of course he was not going to have that and told them, "Watch me" and he did with the use of prosthetics and a greater self-determination than most humans. Darrell was an expert tradesman in the field of HVAC and was well respected throughout the construction community within the four corners. He went on to own and operate Four Seasons Supply for Twenty years until his health began to decline and he retired.

Darrell loved his family and spending time at his and Kim's property at Lemon Lake, Colorado where many camping, boating, fishing and cookouts were held over the past 40 years. Family, friends and neighbors were always welcomed to join. His grandchildren have many wonderful memories of roasting marshmallows and telling stories around the campfire.

Darrell was an incredible role model to all who knew him, he was honest and charitable and would help anyone he could. Often, he gave his expertise and support to young men starting businesses in the field of HVAC as well as being called by many family members needing assistance with a furnace, air- conditioner or anything related to fixing something. He often declined to accept financial compensation for his time or materials for family and close friends. If he couldn't help, he would guide them to a trusted colleague.

Darrell's favorite activity was to fish, he loved going on trips to Lake Powell with his sons and son-in-law, Phil. Darrell and Phil were known to travel to Cedar Bluffs, Kansas, Del Rio, Texas as well as any lake in New Mexico or Colorado they could launch a boat, and sometimes not making it home as expected by their wives and then blaming the other for the delay.

Darrell worked hard and played hard but mostly he loved hard! He will be missed by all who knew him and we will rejoice when we meet again!

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday August 14, 2026, at Farmington Funeral Home, 2111 W. Apache St., Farmington, New Mexico 87401. Graveside services will follow at Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery. 59 Rd 6580, Kirtland, New Mexico.
