Glendale Rainwater

Glendale Lee Rainwater, 90, of Aztec, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2021.

Born March 10, 1930 to James and Julia Mann in Bristow, Oklahoma, Glendale was better known to friends and family as Glenna.  Growing up as one of the youngest of sixteen siblings, life was not always easy.  Their father passed when Glenna was just nine years old, and every family member worked hard to help with financial and family burdens.

The family struggles did not hinder Glenna from pursuing her own goals in life.  Fresh out of high school she enrolled at Bristow Junior College where she met the love of her life, Merle Rainwater.  Merle and Glenna dated for one year before marrying on a beautiful April morning in 1947. They began their lives together in Depew, Oklahoma.  Merle’s job took them to Texas, before they moved to New Mexico where they settled for their remaining years.  Together, Merle and Glenna had five children.

Glenna was always a hard worker.  On top of raising her children and keeping an immaculate house, she held several jobs that included postal clerk, hospital supervisor, grocery clerk, military test proctor, and service station owner.

Glenna was popular and gregarious; always friendly, charismatic, and thoughtful.  Anyone who met her would end up with a friend for life.  She was actively involved in church, loved to craft, and took up golf when she reached her Golden Years.

Glenna loved fiercely.  She was the pillar of the family who always provided strength, support, honesty and kindness.  She was proud of being a grandmother.  Family pictures adorned the walls of her home, and she was happy to share with others how special her family was to her by telling fond stories or boasting of their accomplishments.

Glenna’s strength and determination coupled with a spirit of love and caring will be carried on through her family who will miss her immensely.

Glenna was proceeded in death by her parents; siblings; husband of 68 years, Merle Rainwater; and her son, Michael Rainwater.

Glenna is survived by her children, Diane (Johnny) Knight, Becky (Gary) Weisgerber, Karen Harris, and Jeffrey (Missy) Rainwater; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation will take place. A private celebration of life for family will occur at a later time.
